Seminar| Yemen 2014: Problems, Solutions & Prospects

OxGAPS held a seminar titled “Yemen 2014 – problems, solutions and prospects” on February 20, 2014 in the Middle East Centre at St Antony’s College. The keynote speaker was Amat al-AlimAlsoswa, regarded as Yemen’s most senior female politician, and a key protagonist of the current National Dialogue Conference. Alsoswa was a former UN Assistant Secretary-General leading the UNDP Bureau for Arab States. She was also the first female minister in Yemen where she served as Minister for Human Rights between 2003 and 2005. The Seminar was attended by two panellists, Helen Lackner, who is the author of “Why Yemen Matters: A Society in transition” and Henry Thompson, a Yemen specialist and consultant to the oil and mining sectors on environmental impacts and community engagement strategies.
